The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR, EU 2025/40) replaces the old European packaging directive and sets stricter requirements for the recyclability, material use and documentation of packaging.
For retailers, this means that from 2026 they must be able to present verifiable documentation from their suppliers: which material is used, how recyclable the packaging is, and which reduction targets are being pursued.
For suppliers such as IMFACO, this means that every foodservice item must have a file demonstrating that it meets the new standards. IMFACO proactively keeps this documentation in order per item, so that retail partners can meet their own compliance obligations without delay.
Practical advice for buyers: ask every new supplier explicitly for PPWR documentation, and include this as a standard requirement in the tender specifications for 2026 and beyond.
